Just a phone call - - - or SMS away

Do you realize the power of SMS?

For a while now, I had been hesitating calling up two potential clients. My worry was this: These guys are really, really, senior people in their organizations. Unsolicited phone calls would be as welcome as a tooth-ache in the middle of a busy day. Emails : too slow, and the potential for them to be ignored was too high.

I sent them an SMS each: telling them what I wanted to speak to them about, and asking them what a good time to call would be.

Within minutes, I got replies from both - and the calls are fixed.

What I learnt: SMS works. Its a damn sight quicker than email, and most important: allows you to do some "permission based contacting". The next time you hesitate to call a person, try sending an SMS instead.

The Women's Special Bus

Interesting conversation with my two-and-a-half year old son this morning. I was driving him to his play school, when he sees this pink colored bus.

"What's that bus?"

"That? That's a Women-only bus. Men and boys - like you or me - aren't allowed".

Silence for a few few seconds.

"No."

"What d'you mean - NO? I'm telling you that its a Womens' special, right?"

"The driver is a man."

What I learnt: Out of the mouths of babes and sucklings - - -

First post

This is amazing. For the last 40 odd years, I've been learning something-or-the-other from someone-or-the-other every day. EVERY day. And it hits me that TODAY would be a good day to begin this?

Hmmm.

All right. Let me take this as it comes. EOD, everyday, I'm going to post something or the other onto this post - something strange, funny, sad, amazing - anything - that I learnt through my interacting with people. Not something I read about, definitely not something I read about on the net.

I hope this works out to be fun to do.
